Game
Matters
Scott
Miller's weblog (Owner/Partner of 3d Realms). One
of the best resources I've seen for game design/industry;
with articles covering both aspects in the design and
marketing/business side of the industry. The article on
how Max Payne was positioned as a character-led
franchise from the get go is an eye opener. Also contains
a lot of good links and (mostly) games industry related
book reviews. A goldmine for pro game
designers and modders alike, in my humble opinion.
World
Of Stuart
There
comes a time in your life when you realise that the "Official"
magazine for whatever console you own, doesn't quite cut
it anymore. Mine was when the "Official" Nintendo
magazine's "reviews" were reduced to one sentence
caption's, all games scored over 90%, the word "your"
was religiously replaced with "yer", and free
Pokemon stickers became the norm.
The
chances are, if you followed UK games journalism during
the past decade, you'll have come across the work of Stuart
Campbell. You'll have also noticed the rather blatant
decline in quality print magazines over the last five
years or so; most recently with the whole Driv3r
scandal. Thankfully Woos strives to preserve the journalist
integrity we were used in the golden age of game's mags.
This
site offers a nostalgic trip back, with a massive archive
of articles and reviews featured in magazines like Amiga
Power, Gamesmaster, Total, Edge, N64, PCZone, PCGamer,
as well as the Teletext favourite 'Digitiser' (to name
barely a handful). The site is updated regularly with
lengthily, well-written, and somewhat cynical articles
from an insider's perspective. . Not for those who are
afraid of large word counts, easily offended, and/or subscribe
to the Official Playstation magazine.

Good or bad -- I've probably tried it. Alright, maybe
not all of 'em, but there are some real gems in there
if you route around.
