Combat Strategies

USE BULLET-TIME!!!
While fighting at top speed is an exhilarating experience, using bullet-time effectively is your key to victory. Slow down time to give yourself a moment to survey the situation, and come up with an effective strategy to take down your opponent(s).

Divide and Conquer
The quickest way to lose your head is to get ambushed and/or surrounded. Use your acrobatic skills to out-manoeuvre enemies, and keep them in your sights at all times. Separate them using tumbling and other techniques, and always try to create a situation where you can fight one-on-one.

Play it your way
Don’t feel pressured to fight in the arena of their choosing – you can always retreat and draw the enemies somewhere more advantageous to you. Backing up against a wall will prevent the enemies from attacking from behind, at the risk of being corned. Also, look out for danger zones and traps that you can use to lure enemies to. After all it is an active subway -- use your imagination.

The Best Defence is Offence
Single attacks may work for weaker enemies, but the more heavily armoured baddies are more likely block and counter-attack. You may have more success if you charge at your opponents, and lay into them with a combo before they have a chance to attack. Hit and run attacks won’t get you very far – especially if the enemy has a special attack that can take you down quickly. Instead, parry their attacks, and really try to put the pressure on them. Remember: they can’t attack you if they’re too busy defending your attacks.

Choose the Right Tool for the Job
You will find that some enemies are weaker against sword attacks than gun attacks, and vice versa. If you find yourself being gunned down from a distance, then it makes sense to switch to ranged weapons. Likewise, if you get rushed, then the katana is your best bet (you can quickly switch to it with the best weapon key – default ‘G’). If it seems than an enemy has an obvious weak spot, then try to exploit it.

Use Quicksave!!!
It’s very easy to get drawn into battles and forget about quicksave. But with the boss fights in particular, you’ll find that it’s difficult to survive an encounter in one sitting. So if you find yourself a convenient moment to save, do so – you’ll kick yourself otherwise if you get killed.
